Instruction
COVID-19 Announcement
Due to COVID-19 my instruction schedule is fluid. I am offering a Wednesday Drop-In 9:00-12:00 class in my studio as long as it is safe. I may end up switching to Zoom classes if needed. Thank you for your patience while I navigate how to best serve my students and classes. See the COVID-19 Guidelines link.
Drop-In Oil Painting Class and Private Mentor/Consulting
I’m currently offering a summer Drop-In Oil Painting Class (see below for details) and one on one Private Mentor/Consulting sessions for either 30 or 60 minutes depending on your desire. Mentor/Consulting tends to be more of a discussion about the work (e.g. working through a struggle, critique, strategizing, process, studio set up, art and business, etc.). It can be designed for any needs. It’s generally not painting time, other than maybe to paint something specific, to feel more confident moving forward, or to learn a particular technique. This can be designed for each individual as a private lesson as well. How does it work? Depending on your technical skills… either email or text me photos of your painting(s) 24 hours ahead of time. If meeting in person is not possible we can talk on the phone and discuss your work or connect virtually. Please contact me if interested. Laura@LTryonJennings.com
Mentor/Consulting Fee: 1 hour -$60, 3/4 hour -$45, 1/2 hour -$30

Drop-In classes works like this…
You can lock in your dates ahead of time or let me know the Monday before class if you’re going to make it (this ensures the class won’t be over crowded and on the other spectrum, that it will run, or if you wake up in the mood to paint you can email or call me between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. to see if the class will be held (as I need a certain number to run the class) and to be sure there’s room. Bring in whatever it is you’d like to paint. e.g. items for a still life, photo, or set up to do an interior, paint the ocean view, etc. If you can’t decide bring in a couple of options and we can talk about the possibilities! This is a very casual and encouraging class with each student working on their own unique painting. All supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring your own supplies if you prefer. If you have never painted before please call me ahead of time, so we can chat how I can best guide you. 781-837-7982

I approach teaching with each student individually, so they can paint freely, at their own level, and paint a subject (landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, interior, etc. from life and/or from a photograph) befitting their skills and needs. I talk with each new student before taking their first class to get a feel for what he or she would like to accomplish. This enables me to help guide his or her own unique creative strategies.
For each session there is an optional assignment or challenge for those students who would like more direction and/or to discover a new technique. Often the class works on diverse paintings with a few participating in the assignment/challenge. Each session focuses on learning the basics of oil painting materials, foundations of color theory, color mixing, composition, and critique. Class can also be used to learn helpful tips and techniques to help promote your art professionally. The classes are sprinkled with beginners, intermediates, and beyond students. Each class contains a relaxed, supportive, and encouraging atmosphere enabling the student to find a distinctive pathway to oil painting. All supplies will be provided or bring your own supplies if you prefer.
