Tap into an extraordinary resource: the vibrant, vital force of your own creative character in a nurturing, encouraging, and safe environment and discover your distinctive path to oil painting. You only need bring the willingness to give up any attachment to feeling you have no talent or creativity. The focus of this workshop is to enjoy the creative experience and self nurturing qualities oil painting can provide to your soul. It offers a unique blend of learning the basics of oil painting materials, foundations of color theory, color mixing, composition and working with the flow of the creative process to awaken creative spirit, remember playfulness, and open a fuller expression of authentic self by nurturing your essence. Artist Jennings approaches teaching each student individually, so they can paint freely, at their own level, and paint a subject (landscape, still life, portrait, abstract, interior, etc. from life and/or from a photograph) befitting their skills and needs. The workshop can be used as a vehicle for expression, playing with paint, learning the techniques of oil painting, and/or to have instructional oil painting, which means you truly can be a beginner, intermediate, or simply get a feel for oil painting. All supplies will be provided or bring your own supplies if you prefer.
For students who have absolutely no background in painting and desire instructional painting, I recommend one or two private classes with me before jumping into a six-week session. If this isn’t feasible, I ask for patience, particularly on the first day, and for you to connect with me through email or phone at least one week before class. (LTryonJennings@gmail.com, 781-837-7982 landline)
There will be a still life set up. If you choose to paint a still life bringing a camera is helpful. Please feel free to bring in any photographs or other props if preferred. Simply playing with the paint is perfectly okay as well.

Drop-In Oil Painting Class and Private Mentor/Consulting
I’m currently offering a summer Drop-In Oil Painting Class (see below for details) and one on one Private Mentor/Consulting sessions for either 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on your desire. Mentor/Consulting tends to be more of a discussion about the work (e.g. working through a struggle, critique, strategizing, process, studio set up, art and business, etc.). It can be designed for any needs. It’s generally not painting time, other than maybe to paint something specific, to feel more confident moving forward, or to learn a particular technique. This can be designed for each individual as a private lesson as well. How does it work? Depending on your technical skills… either email or text me photos of your painting(s) 24 hours ahead of time. If meeting in person is not possible we can talk on the phone and discuss your work or connect virtually. Please contact me if interested. Laura@LTryonJennings.com
Mentor/Consulting Fee: 1 hour -$60, 3/4 hour -$45, 1/2 hour -$30

Drop-In classes works like this…
You can lock in your dates ahead of time or let me know the Sunday before class if you’re going to make it (this ensures the class won’t be overcrowded and on the other spectrum, that it will run, or if you wake up in the mood to paint on Tuesday you can email or call me between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. to see if the class will be held or if there’s room. Bring in whatever it is you’d like to paint. e.g., items for a still life, photo, set up to do an interior, or paint the ocean view from the studio, etc. If you can’t decide you can bring in a couple of options and we can talk about the possibilities! This is a very casual and encouraging class with each student working on their own unique painting. I’ll do individual demo’s depending on the needs of each student. If you’ve never previously painted or need a bit more attention you may want to consider taking a private class or two before jumping into a class. Please call me ahead of time, so we can chat how I can best guide you. 781-837-7982. All supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring your own supplies if you prefer.
Covid-19 Class Adjustments…Vaccinations and booster shots are required. I’m leaving wearing masks up to you for now. I’ll be following the state guidelines regarding masks and distancing. The studio can safely accommodate stations six feet apart. I have gloves available for those who need to use the group supplies. Bathrooms need to be wiped down after each use.
My studio can accommodate 9 students. I have air purifiers and windows open at least a crack depending on the weather.
There are two studios:
Downstairs Studio: There are six stations set up six feet apart
Upstairs Studio: There are two stations eight feet apart. There’s also one separate singular station I can set up off the kitchen.
If you have a preference, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you.
If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to check in with me.
